Poznati znanstvenici armenskoga podrijetla

Armenska znanost po svojim postignućima poznata je u području astrofizike, radiofizike, matematike, matematičke kibernetike, informatike, seizmologije…

 
 
Armenci su diljem svijeta, u domovini ili izvan nje, kao i mnogi drugi narodi, dali svoj doprinos razvoju prirodnih i tehničkih znanosti. Primjerice, već u srednjem vijeku poznati su brojni znanstvenici armenskoga podrijetla: zvjezdoznanac (astronom), matematičar i kartograf Ananija Širakaci (oko 601. – oko 685.); bizantski matematičari i filozofi: Lav Matematičar ili Lav Filozof (oko 790. – 870.) i Nikolos Artavazd Ravda (konac 13. st. – sredina 14. st.); prirodoslovac i matematičar Grigor Magistros Pahlavuni (oko 990. – oko 1059.); zvjezdoznanac i reformator armenskoga kalendara Ovanes Imastaser (oko 1045. – oko 1129.) i drugi. U srednjevjekovlju su postojale visoke škole u Sanahinu (konac 10. ili početak 11. st.), Aniju (11. st.), Gladzoru (13. st.), Tatevu (14. st.) gdje je osim bogoslovlja izučavana filozofija, povijest, gramatika, matematika, medicina, astronomija i glazba.
 
U 20. stoljeću u Erevanu su bili utemeljeni: Erevansko državno sveučilište (1921.), Erevanski politehnički institut (1931., sada – Armensko nacionalno politehničko sveučilište), Erevansko pedagoško sveučilište (1922., sada – Armensko državno pedagoško sveučilište Hačatura Abovjana), Armenska nacionalna akademija znanosti (1943., od 1993. – Nacionalna akademija znanosti Republike Armenije). Armenska akademija znanosti ima nekoliko razreda: Razred za matematičke i tehničke znanosti; Razred za fiziku i astrofiziku; Razred za prirodne znanosti; Razred za kemiju i znanost o Zemlji; Razred za armenistiku i društvene znanosti. Pri razredima djeluje nekoliko zavoda. Prvi predsjednik Akademije bio je orijentalist Josip Orbeli (1887. – 1961.).

Armenska znanost po svojim postignućima poznata je u području astrofizike, radiofizike, matematike, matematičke kibernetike, informatike, seizmologije i drugima.
 
Od znanstvenika armenskoga podrijetla u Armeniji i inozemstvu ističu se: Oganes Adamjan (Baku, 1879. – Lenjingrad, 1932.) je jedan od izumitelja dalekovidnice (televizije) u boji i bežičnoga brzojavljenja (radiotelegrafije). Autor je više od dvadeset izuma većinom u području televizije i fototelegrafije.
 
Abram Alihanov (Tbilisi, 1904. – Moskva, 1970.) je jedan od osnivača sovjetske nuklearne fizike i jedan od izrađivača atomske bombe, prvi ravnatelj od 1945. Instituta za teorijsku i primijenjenu fiziku.

Viktor Ambarcumjan (Tbilisi, 1908. – Bjurakan, 1996.) je jedan od utemeljitelja teorijske astrofizike, predsjednik Međunarodnoga astronomskoga saveza, tvorac i prvi predsjednik znanstvenoga saveza “Zvjezdana udruga“.

Eduard Arušanjan (Vladivostok, 1934.) je osnivač kronofarmakologije. Osnovao je školu farmakologije i stvorio znanstveni smjer koji je povezan s izradbom aktualnih zagana (problema) u području kronobiologije i kronofarmakologije. Autor je 750 znanstvenih radova, 26 monografija i 153 stranih publikacija. Odlikovan je srebrenom medaljom “2.000 istaknutih znanstvenika 20. stoljeća“.
 
Giaocomo Luigi Ciamician (Trst, 1857. – Bologna, 1922.) je ušao u povijest fotokemije kao tvorac sunčanih ploča (panela). Bio je predsjednik Talijanske kemijske udruge, zastupnik u talijanskom parlamentu, član nekoliko akademija. Devet puta je nominiran za Nobelovu nagradu. Autor je 40 izuma i više od 400 znanstvenih radova.

James Philip Bagian (Philadelphia, 1952.) je poznati znanstvenik-astronaut u području medicinsko-bioloških istraživanja. 13. ožuljka 1989. god. poletio je u svemir na letjelici “Discovery“ u okviru programa “Space Shuttle“, STS-29, a od 5. do 14. lipnja 1991. god. sudjelovao je u ekspediciji STS-40 na svemirskoj letjelici “Columbia“.

Raymond Vahan Damadian (Melville, New York, 1936.) je jedan od izumitelja magnetno-rezonantne tomografije. Predsjednik je znantvenoga saveza Massachusett, odlikovan je medaljom Kongresa SAD-a za vrijedan doprinos u razvoju medicine.

Od 2007. do 2009. god. bio je ministar zdravstva Velike Britanije. Od 2008. god. je počasni član Armenske akademije znanosti.

Postao je prvi znanstvenik koji je dobio znanstveni stupanj profesora plastične kirurgije Harvardske medicinske škole. Prvi je u SAD-u izdao knjige na temu plastične kirurgije. Autor je više od 700 znanstvenih radova.
